Ingredients

  • 3 medium or 2 large baking potatoes
  • 2 1/2 cups Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
  • Salt

Directions

  • Step 1

    CUT potatoes lengthwise into 1/2-inch wide strips. Place in large bowl of cold water.

  • Step 2

    HEAT shortening or oil in 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat 5 to 10 minutes, until oil reaches 360º to 375°F.

  • Step 3

    DRAIN potatoes. Pat dry with paper towels.

  • Step 4

    PLACE potatoes in hot shortening or oil. Cook 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown, turning 4 to 5 times during cooking.

  • Step 5

    REMOVE French fries with slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels. Season to taste with salt. Serve immediately.
