Ingredients
- 2 tbsps. Crisco® Pure Canola Oil
- 3 to 4 cloves garlic
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
- 1 lb. smoked turkey sausage
- 1 (14 1/2 oz.) can chopped tomatoes
- 1 cup reduced sodium chicken or beef broth
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 1/2 cup chopped green onions
Directions
- Step 1
HEAT oil in large heavy saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic, onion, green pepper and celery. Cook 5 minutes, stirring often. Add sausage. Cook 3 minutes, stirring often.
- Step 2
ADD tomatoes with liquid, broth, salt, thyme, cayenne pepper and bay leaf. Bring to a simmer and cook 10 to 15 minutes, stirring often. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Step 3
ADD rice, stir to mix well; bring to a boil. Lower heat to medium-low, stir well; cover. Cook about 20 to 25 minutes until rice is cooked, stirring often. Add green onion; fluff with a fork before serving.
