Hearty Onion and Mushroom Cheeseburgers

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsps. Crisco® Pure Vegetable Oil
  • 1/2 cup sliced, fresh mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 3 tbsps. milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. dried thyme leaves
  • 4 crusty French rolls

Directions

  • Step 1

    HEAT 2 tablespoons oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms, onion and garlic. Cook and stir 5 minutes or until onions are soft. Remove from skillet and place into mixing bowl.

  • Step 2

    ADD beef, cheese, bread crumbs, milk, salt, pepper and thyme. Mix well. Form 4 ovals to match shape and size of rolls.

  • Step 3

    HEAT remaining 1 tablespoon oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Add burgers. Cook 4 to 5 minutes. Turn with spatula. Cook an additional 4 to 5 minutes, or to desired doneness. Top with onions and mushrooms. Serve on rolls with favorite condiments.
