Mushroom Filled Meat Loaf
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 slices soft white bread
- 2 tsps. parsley flakes
- 2 tsps. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 2 tbsps. Crisco® Baking Sticks Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening
- OR 2 tbsps. Crisco® Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms
- 1 (0.87 to 1.2 oz.) pkg. homestyle gravy mix
Directions
- Step 1
HEAT oven to 375ºF. Combine beef, milk, egg, bread pieces, parsley flakes, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and garlic powder in a large mixing bowl. Chill until ready to shape meatloaf.
- Step 2
MELT shortening in small skillet. Add onion and mushrooms, cooking and stirring, over medium heat until onion is tender. Cool slightly.
- Step 3
FORM chilled beef mixture evenly into a 10 x 8-inch rectangle on a piece of waxed paper. Spread mushroom mixture over beef to within 1-inch of edges. Using waxed paper, roll up rectangle tightly, beginning with shorter edge. Press edges and ends to seal. Place loaf seam side down in 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
- Step 4
ROAST 1 hour or until center is no longer pink and internal temperature reaches 160ºF. Drain meatloaf. Let stand 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Prepare gravy as directed on package; serve alongside meatloaf.
