Pasta with Sausage and Peppers

Ingredients
- 1 lb. mild or hot Italian bulk sausage
- 2 tbsps. Crisco® Pure Vegetable Oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz.) can crushed tomatoes with basil, garlic and oregano
- 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 2 tbsps. chopped fresh basil
- 1 (1 lb.) pkg. ziti, rigatoni or penne pasta
- Freshly grated Parmesan or Romano cheese
Directions
- Step 1
HEAT 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Crumble sausage into skillet. Cook and crumble until sausage is no longer pink. Remove from skillet; set aside.
- Step 2
HEAT oil in same skillet over medium heat. Add onion, green pepper and red pepper. Cook 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in garlic.
- Step 3
STIR in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, pepper and reserved sausage. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Step 4
COOK pasta according to package directions; drain. When sauce is done, stir in basil. Serve sauce over pasta. Sprinkle with cheese.
