Ingredients

  • 3 tbsps. Crisco® Pure Vegetable Oil
  • 1 (2 1/2 to 3 lbs.) beef pot roast
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ground allspice
  • 1 large bay leaf
  • 4 small potatoes
  • 3 medium carrots
  • 1 medium onion
  • GRAVY
  • 1 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tsps. browning sauce

Directions

  • Step 2

    HEAT oven to 325ºF. Heat oil in large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Season meat with salt and pepper. Add to Dutch oven. Brown meat on all sides. Add beef broth, garlic salt, allspice and bay leaf. Cover.

  • Step 3

    ROAST in oven 1 hour. Arrange potatoes, carrots and onion around meat. Season with salt and pepper. Cover. Bake an additional 1 1/2 hours or until meat and vegetables are fork tender. Remove bay leaf. Place meat and vegetables on serving platter. Cover with foil to keep warm. Heat liquid in Dutch oven to boiling.

  • Step 4

    STIR cornstarch and water in small bowl until smooth. Stir into hot liquid. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Stir in browning sauce. Serve with meat and vegetables.

  • Step 6

    COAT slow cooker with Crisco® No-Stick Cooking Spray.

  • Step 7

    HEAT oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Season meat with salt and pepper. Brown on both sides in skillet. Place potatoes, carrots and onion in slow cooker with browned meat on top. Combine beef broth, garlic salt, allspice and bay leaf. Pour over meat and vegetables.

  • Step 8

    COVER and cook on Low 8 to 10 hours or on High 4 to 5 hours. Remove bay leaf. Omit gravy directions. Stir in browning sauce.
