Ingredients

  • Crisco® Pure Peanut Oil
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsps. vanilla extract
  • Peel of 1 orange
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsps. Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 2 tbsps. Crisco® Baking Sticks All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Powdered sugar

Directions

  • Step 1

    HEAT 2 or 3 inches peanut oil to 365ºF in deep fryer or deep saucepan.

  • Step 2

    WHISK together buttermilk, egg yolks, granulated sugar, vanilla, orange peel and salt in medium bowl. Slowly stir in 2 tablespoons melted shortening. Stir in 1 cup flour.

  • Step 3

    KNEAD dough on lightly floured surface, adding enough additional flour to make it easy to handle. Roll dough into 12 x 12- inch square. Cut dough into 3 equal rectangles. Cut each rectangle into 8 strips. Make single twist in center of each strip to form bow.

  • Step 4

    FRY a few at a time, 1 1/2 minutes or until golden brown. Turn once. Remove with slotted metal spoon. Drain on paper towels. Sift powdered sugar over both sides. Serve immediately.
