Mediterranean Pizza Bread

  • 1 (1 pound) loaf unsliced Italian Bread
  • 1/4 cup Crisco® Pure Olive Oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup seeded and chopped Roma tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped and pitted black or Kalamata olives
  • 1 (6 oz.) container feta cheese, crumbled


  1. 1.
    HEAT oven to 425°F. Cut loaf of bread into 1/2-inch thick slices. Brush 8 bread slices on both sides with olive oil, reserving remaining bread for another use. Place on baking sheet. Bake 5 minutes. Turn slices upside down.

    COMBINE oregano, red pepper flakes and mozzarella cheese. Reserve 1/2 cup of cheese mixture. Divide remaining seasoned cheese evenly on top of toasted bread slices. Sprinkle each with tomatoes, olives and feta. Top with remaining seasoned cheese.

    RETURN to oven. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until cheese melts and bottoms are crisp.

Great Appetizer and Easy I made this for the first time after attending a Taste of Home Cooking School in 2008 which they featured Crisco and made the bread. I made it as an appetizer and everybody loved it. My kids considered it a pizza bread. I did leave off the olives as I don't care for and I probably got about 12 slices of the loaf. Definitely will make often. July 21, 2013
Looked All Over For A Pizza Bread Recipe This recipe was featured on facebook and we were looking for a pizza bread recipe that reminded us of the pizza breads we used to get back home. This is it ! We made a variety different kinds and they all turned out great!! March 19, 2013
