Crunchy Fried Mushrooms

Yield:4 to 6 servings

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 cup Pillsbury BEST® All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Dash freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 8 ounces whole fresh mushrooms, wiped clean and trimmed
  • Crisco® Pure Vegetable Oil, for frying

PREPARATION DIRECTIONS:

    COMBINE flour, salt, mustard, paprika and pepper in large resealable plastic bag. Pour buttermilk in small bowl. Add mushrooms. Toss to coat. Place mushrooms in bag with flour mixture. Shake to coat.

    HEAT 2 to 3 inches oil in deep-fryer or heavy saucepan to 375ºF. Fry a few mushrooms at a time 2 to 3 minutes, or until deep golden brown, turning over several times. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with a dipping sauce, if desired.

Delicious The mushrooms are crunchy and extremely delicious. They are my favorite fried vegetable. The mustard and paprika were new for me; I am glad because it is very good. The seasonings and buttermilk really make the flavor. March 28, 2013
