French Toast with Apricot Sauce

INGREDIENTS:

  • APRICOT SAUCE
  • 1 (12 oz.) jar Smucker's® Apricot Preserves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tablespoon water, or as needed to thin
  • FRENCH TOAST
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • Pinch of salt
  • 6 (1/2-inch thick) slices challah bread
  • 4 tablespoons Crisco® Butter Shortening
  • Powdered sugar

PREPARATION DIRECTIONS:

    STIR together preserves, cinnamon stick and water in heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat until melted and thin enough to pour. Remove from heat. Discard cinnamon stick. Cover and keep warm.

    WHISK milk, eggs and salt in 13x9-inch baking dish. Place bread on top in single layer. Let stand until liquid is absorbed, about 1 minute per side.

    HEAT 2 tablespoons shortening in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 3 bread slices to skillet and cook until golden, about 3 minutes per side. Place on warm platter. Repeat with remaining 2 tablespoons shortening and 3 bread slices.

    PLACE bread slices on serving plates. Spoon warm apricot sauce over top. Dust with powdered sugar.
