We found an antique Crisco Jar that holds approximately 2 cups. This jar is glass and clear with Crisco embossed in the top. Could anyone tell me when these jars were used? Thanks Kay

Kayk,

During WWII, the slogan "Tin Goes to War-Crisco Goes to Glass" spread the patriotic message of metal conservation on the home front. After thirty years of tin packaging, Crisco along with many other metal canned products, made the switch to glass in 1942. Marketed as a new "uniform," the glass jars were packed in a protective cardboard carton and still carried Crisco's familiar blue and white label. The glass jar featured an easy-open lid, which many consumers saw as an advantage in package design.

I also have a short round crisco jar with the metal lid and blue and white label intact. It has recipes on it and still has crisco inside it. I have never opened it and it has been in my possession since I found it about 19 years ago. I found two of them but kept the nicer one and gave the other to a family member that collected old bottles. It was unfortunately destroyed in a tornado in 1991. I have tried to find another but have never succeeded. I have always wondered what it might be worth and the history behind it.
